Choosing Colors for Front Doors
Your front door is a great place for making a color statement. It is small (in comparison to the whole exterior of your home), so a strong color will not overwhelm, but will add a beauty factor to your color scheme. Take note if your door is flush with the front of the house, or pushed back under a roof. Most front doors are slightly recessed; that is set back and under a porch roof. Because of this, it gets less direct sunlight, so choosing a color a bit stronger and more saturated will look better than a color that is more dull or muted.
Some colors I recommend: a vibrant but earthy orange is always gorgeous, a vibrant yellow for a happy sunny vibe, classic reds are timeless, and even black can be gorgeous if you have a beautiful door. If you like dark blues, try one that is slightly more saturated so that you can see the blue and it does not veer charcoal in low light. I also love a natural old wood door. If you have one of those, be sure you are oiling it so the wood is protected from the elements.
Many people opt for a more neutral siding color, while considering resale value, as well as not wanting too much saturated color on the exterior of their home. This makes a welcoming front door color even more necessary. It's a place you can bring in your color personality and welcome guests in a warm and friendly way.
