Creative Ways to Hide Radiators
A vintage cast iron radiator can be a beautiful thing, but can also be an eyesore if it is not clean and freshly painted.
Marcello from Redfin recently reached out to me asking for suggestions for concealing radiators to be published in an article for their Apartment Guide. Here is a summary:
Every era had a different solution for providing heat in a home. I’ve lived in many Victorian buildings where the old cast iron radiators are either an eye sore because they are filled with dust and peeling paint, or a cool relic of the past because they are clean and well painted with some nifty design details.
For renters who can’t repaint or make permanent modifications, finding an affordable and reversible solution to blend radiators into their space can be tricky.
I’ve suggested bringing in plants that can obstruct the view but still allow the heat to flow around. You will want a plant that is tolerant to the dryness that comes with the location, or else you will need to keep an eye on it, and make sure it gets the moisture it needs to thrive.
